The Super Liga, officially known as the Linglong Tire Super Liga Srbije, is the highest tier of professional football in Serbia. Established in 2006 following the dissolution of the Serbia and Montenegro State Union, it is operated by the Football Association of Serbia. The league is recognized by UEFA and FIFA and is a part of the European football league system.

The Super Liga comprises 16 teams, each playing 30 matches in a season, which runs from July to May. The league operates on a promotion and relegation system, with the two lowest-placed teams at the end of each season relegated to the Serbian First League, the second tier of Serbian football. The top two teams from the First League are promoted to the Super Liga.

The Super Liga has been dominated by two clubs, Red Star Belgrade and Partizan Belgrade, who have won the majority of championships. These two clubs also have the most significant fan bases and are known for their fierce rivalry, known as the "Eternal Derby," which is considered one of the most intense football rivalries globally.

The league has also been a launching pad for many Serbian players who have gone on to have successful international careers, such as Nemanja Vidić, Branislav Ivanović, and Aleksandar Kolarov. The Super Liga has also attracted foreign players, adding to its diversity and competitiveness.

Despite facing challenges such as match-fixing allegations and financial instability, the Super Liga has managed to maintain its status as the premier football competition in Serbia. It has also contributed significantly to the Serbian national team's success, providing a platform for homegrown talent to develop and shine.

The Super Liga's matches are broadcasted both domestically and internationally, attracting millions of viewers each season. The league's popularity has grown over the years, with increasing attendance at matches and growing interest from sponsors.

In conclusion, the Super Liga is more than just a football league; it is a symbol of national pride and a testament to Serbia's love for football. Despite its relatively short history, it has established itself as a competitive and exciting league, producing some of Serbia's best football talents and providing thrilling matches for football fans in Serbia and beyond.
