About Amkar

Amkar Perm is a former professional football club based in Perm, Russia. Founded in 1993, the club had a relatively short but impactful existence in the Russian football scene. It was known for its distinctive red and black uniforms and its dedicated fan base, who were affectionally known as "the Red-Blacks."

The club was initially established as a company team by the employees of the Perm Synthetic Rubber Plant. Despite its humble beginnings, Amkar quickly rose through the ranks of the Russian football leagues, making a name for itself with its tenacious performances and strong team spirit.

In 2004, Amkar achieved its greatest accomplishment by reaching the Russian Premier League (RPL), the top tier of Russian football. This was a significant achievement for a club of Amkar's size and resources, and it marked the beginning of a 14-year stint in the RPL. During this time, the club became known for its defensive style of play and its ability to compete with some of the biggest clubs in the country.

Amkar's home ground was the Zvezda Stadium, a venue with a capacity of 17,000 spectators. The stadium was known for its vibrant atmosphere, particularly during home matches, where the passionate Amkar fans would cheer on their team.

Despite its successes, Amkar faced numerous financial difficulties throughout its existence. These issues came to a head in 2018 when the club was dissolved due to insurmountable financial problems. This was a sad end for a club that had become a staple of the RPL and had brought much joy to its fans.

Throughout its existence, Amkar produced several notable players who went on to have successful careers in Russian and international football. These include the likes of Roman Shirokov, a midfielder who represented Russia in the UEFA European Championship, and Martin Jakubko, a Slovakian forward who played in the FIFA World Cup.

Amkar Perm's legacy in Russian football is one of perseverance and passion. Despite its financial struggles and eventual dissolution, the club left an indelible mark on the sport and its fans. Its rise from a company team to a competitor in the RPL is a testament to the spirit of the club and its players. Even though Amkar Perm no longer exists, its memory lives on in the hearts of its fans and the history of Russian football.
