Argentinos Juniors, officially known as Asociación Atlética Argentinos Juniors, is a professional football club based in La Paternal, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Founded on August 15, 1904, by a group of young enthusiasts, the club is renowned for its youth academy, which has produced numerous high-profile players who have gone on to achieve international fame.
Argentinos Juniors' most notable achievement came in 1985 when they won the Copa Libertadores, South America's most prestigious club football competition. This victory qualified them for the Intercontinental Cup, where they triumphed over Juventus of Italy to claim the title of world club champions. Domestically, the club has won the Argentine Primera División on three occasions, in 1984, 1985, and 2010.
The club's youth academy, known as "El Semillero" (The Seedbed), is one of the most successful in Argentine football. It has produced many players who have represented Argentina at the international level, including World Cup winners such as Diego Maradona and Juan Román Riquelme. Other notable players who started their careers at Argentinos Juniors include Fernando Redondo, Esteban Cambiasso, and Lucas Biglia.
Argentinos Juniors' home ground is the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona, named after the club's most famous player. The stadium, located in the La Paternal neighborhood of Buenos Aires, has a capacity of 24,000 spectators. The club's colors are red and white, and their fans are known as "Bichos" (Bugs), a nickname that originated from the club's mascot, a bug.
Despite its relatively small size compared to other Argentine clubs, Argentinos Juniors has a rich history and a strong reputation for developing young talent. The club's commitment to youth development, combined with its history of success both domestically and internationally, makes it a significant institution in Argentine football.
