Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv Football Club, commonly known as Bnei Yehuda, is a professional football club based in Tel Aviv, Israel. Established in 1926, it is one of the oldest football clubs in Israel. The club is named after the biblical tribe of Judah, reflecting the Jewish identity of its founders and supporters.
Bnei Yehuda's early years were marked by struggles, as the team oscillated between the top and second tiers of Israeli football. The club's fortunes began to change in the 1960s when they secured their place in the top tier, the Israeli Premier League. The 1980s and 1990s were the golden era for Bnei Yehuda, as they won the State Cup multiple times and consistently finished in the top half of the league table.
The club's home ground is the Bloomfield Stadium, which they share with two other Tel Aviv-based clubs, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Maccabi Tel Aviv. The stadium, with a capacity of 29,400, is one of the most modern and well-equipped in Israel.
Bnei Yehuda has a reputation for developing young talents, with their youth academy being one of the most successful in the country. Many players who started their careers at Bnei Yehuda have gone on to represent the Israeli national team and play in some of the top European leagues.
Despite facing financial difficulties and relegation threats in the 2000s, Bnei Yehuda has managed to maintain its status in the Israeli Premier League. The club's resilience and commitment to youth development have earned it a loyal fan base and respect within Israeli football.
Bnei Yehuda's colors are orange and black, and their emblem features a roaring lion, symbolizing the tribe of Judah. The club's nickname is "HaLions" (The Lions), reflecting their emblem and fighting spirit.
Over the years, Bnei Yehuda has had a number of notable achievements. They have won the State Cup five times and the Toto Cup twice. They have also represented Israel in the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup on multiple occasions.
Despite the ups and downs, Bnei Yehuda remains a significant part of Israeli football history. The club's commitment to nurturing young talent and its resilience in the face of adversity continue to inspire its supporters and make it a respected name in Israeli football.
