About Bradford (Park Avenue)

Bradford (Park Avenue) Association Football Club, commonly known as Bradford Park Avenue, is a football club based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. The club's history is rich and storied, dating back to its establishment in 1863 as a rugby club. It was not until 1907 that the club switched to football, becoming a founding member of the Football League's Third Division North in 1921.

The club's name, Park Avenue, originates from its original ground, which was located on Horton Park Avenue in Bradford. The club enjoyed a period of success in the early 20th century, competing in the top tier of English football and reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on three occasions. However, the post-war years were less kind to Bradford Park Avenue, and they eventually dropped out of the Football League in 1970.

In 1973, the club was declared bankrupt and ceased to exist in its original form. However, a new club was formed by supporters, initially under the name Bradford Park Avenue (1974). The club has since worked its way back up the football pyramid, and as of the 2020-2021 season, they compete in the National League North, the sixth tier of English football.

Despite the challenges, Bradford Park Avenue has managed to maintain a dedicated fan base. The club's traditional colours are green and white, and their current home ground is the Horsfall Stadium, where they have played since 1994. The club's mascot, a parrot named 'Avenue', is a popular figure at home games.

Notable former players include Len Shackleton, who went on to play for England, and Kevin Hector, who had a successful career with Derby County. The club also has a reputation for developing young talent, with a number of former youth players going on to have successful professional careers.

Bradford Park Avenue's history is marked by resilience and a strong community spirit. Despite the ups and downs, the club continues to be a significant part of Bradford's sporting heritage. Their story serves as a reminder of the passion and dedication that underpin the world of football, from the grassroots level to the professional leagues.
