Club Atlético Estudiantes, commonly known as CA Estudiantes or simply Estudiantes, is a professional football club based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The club was founded on May 15, 1898, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Argentina. The team's colors are red and white, and they are affectionally known as "Los Pincharratas" (The Rat Stabbers) by their devoted fans.
The club's history is rich with success and notable achievements. Estudiantes has won several national and international titles, including the Argentine Primera División on multiple occasions, the Copa Libertadores, and the Intercontinental Cup. The club has also produced many talented players who have gone on to represent Argentina in international competitions.
The club's home ground is the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata, a modern stadium with a seating capacity of over 53,000. The stadium is known for its unique design and is considered one of the most impressive football stadiums in Argentina.
Estudiantes' most successful period came in the late 1960s and early 1970s under the management of Osvaldo Zubeldía. During this time, the club won three consecutive Copa Libertadores titles and the Intercontinental Cup. This golden era established Estudiantes as a force in South American football and cemented their place in the history of the sport.
Despite facing financial difficulties and relegation in the past, Estudiantes has always managed to bounce back and remain competitive. The club's resilience and fighting spirit are reflected in their motto, "Más que un club" (More than a club), which embodies their commitment to their community and their passion for the game.
The club has a strong youth development program, which has produced numerous players who have gone on to have successful careers in Argentina and abroad. Notable alumni include Juan Sebastián Verón, a former Argentine international who had a successful career in Europe before returning to Estudiantes, where he eventually became the club's president.
Estudiantes' matches against Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, another club from the city of La Plata, form one of the most heated rivalries in Argentine football, known as the Clásico Platense. These matches are marked by intense passion and competitiveness, reflecting the deep-rooted rivalry between the two clubs.
Today, Estudiantes continues to be a prominent club in Argentine football, consistently competing in the top tier of the Argentine league system and regularly participating in international competitions. The club's rich history, passionate fan base, and commitment to developing young talent ensure that it remains a significant force in Argentine and South American football.
