About Clyde

Clyde Football Club is a historic Scottish football team, founded in 1877, and currently based in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire. The club has a rich history, with its roots in the city of Glasgow, where it was initially established. The team is often referred to as "The Bully Wee," a nickname that has been associated with the club for over a century.

Clyde FC has spent the majority of its existence in the top two tiers of Scottish football, showcasing its competitive nature and resilience. The club has won the Scottish Cup three times, in 1939, 1955, and 1958, and has been runners-up on three other occasions. The club has also won the second tier of Scottish football, now known as the Scottish Championship, on eleven occasions, which is a record in the division.

In the early years, Clyde FC played at Barrowfield Park, before moving to Shawfield in 1898, which was their home for over 70 years. The club had to leave Shawfield in 1986 due to a dispute with the stadium's greyhound racing owners. This led to a nomadic period for the club, during which they played at various grounds, including Firhill and Douglas Park, before finally settling at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld in 1994.

Clyde FC has produced several notable players who have gone on to achieve significant success in football. These include Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary Manchester United manager who began his playing career at Clyde, and Steve Archibald, who played for Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona.

Despite facing financial difficulties and relegation issues in the early 2000s, Clyde FC has shown resilience, bouncing back to regain its status in the Scottish Professional Football League. The club's commitment to its community is evident in its various initiatives, such as the Clyde Community Foundation, which aims to use football to create positive change in the local community.

Clyde FC's history is a testament to the club's resilience and determination. Despite the challenges it has faced, the club has remained a significant part of Scottish football history, and continues to inspire its loyal fan base with its tenacious spirit.
