Club Deportivo Coopsol, commonly known as Deportivo Coopsol or simply Coopsol, is a professional football club based in Chancay, Lima, Peru. The club was established in 1998 by the Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito Coopsol, a Peruvian savings and credit cooperative, which is the origin of the club's name.
Deportivo Coopsol has spent most of its existence in the Peruvian Segunda División, the second tier of Peruvian football. The club's primary aim has been to gain promotion to the top-tier Peruvian Primera División, a feat they achieved in the 2000 season. However, their stay in the top flight was short-lived, and they were relegated back to the Segunda División at the end of the 2001 season.
Despite this setback, Deportivo Coopsol has remained a competitive force in the Segunda División, consistently finishing in the top half of the league table. The club has also had success in the Copa Perú, the most prestigious football cup competition in Peru, reaching the final stages on several occasions.
The club's colors are yellow and blue, and they play their home matches at the Estadio Rómulo Shaw Cisneros, a stadium with a capacity of 5,000 spectators. Despite its relatively small size, the stadium is known for its passionate and vocal home support.
Over the years, Deportivo Coopsol has developed a reputation for nurturing young talent. Many players have started their professional careers at the club before moving on to bigger teams in Peru and abroad. This focus on youth development is a key part of the club's philosophy and has helped to sustain its competitiveness in the Segunda División.
Deportivo Coopsol's history may not be as long or as illustrious as some of Peru's more established clubs, but it has carved out a niche for itself in the country's football landscape. The club's resilience, commitment to youth development, and strong community ties have made it a beloved institution in Chancay and beyond.
Despite the challenges of competing in a football-mad country with many bigger and wealthier clubs, Deportivo Coopsol continues to hold its own. The club's ultimate goal remains to return to the Primera División and establish itself as a permanent fixture in the top tier of Peruvian football. With its dedicated fan base, talented young players, and strong community support, Deportivo Coopsol is a club with a bright future.
