About Edinburgh City

Edinburgh City Football Club is a semi-professional football club based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Founded in 1928, the club has a rich history that spans over nine decades. The club is currently a member of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL), where it competes in the League Two division, the fourth tier of the Scottish football league system.

The club was initially formed by the merger of three local clubs, namely, Postal United, Lochrin and Broughton. The club's first major success came in 1931 when they won the Scottish Qualifying Cup. They repeated this feat in 1936 and 1947. Despite these early successes, the club struggled to establish itself in the higher echelons of Scottish football.

Edinburgh City's fortunes began to change in the late 1980s when they were admitted into the Scottish Football League (SFL) in 1986. However, the club was relegated from the SFL in 2000 after finishing bottom of the league. Undeterred, the club spent the next 16 years in the Lowland Football League, where they consistently finished in the top half of the table.

In 2016, Edinburgh City made history by becoming the first club to be promoted to the SPFL via the pyramid play-offs. This marked their return to the Scottish professional leagues after a 16-year absence. Since their promotion, the club has established itself as a competitive force in League Two, regularly finishing in the top half of the table.

The club's home ground is Ainslie Park, a modern facility with a capacity of 3,000 spectators. The club moved to Ainslie Park in 2013 after their former home, Meadowbank Stadium, was closed for redevelopment. The club's traditional colours are white and black, which are reflected in their home kit.

Throughout its history, Edinburgh City has been known for its commitment to youth development. The club runs several youth teams and has a reputation for nurturing young talent. Many players who started their careers at Edinburgh City have gone on to play at higher levels of Scottish and international football.

Edinburgh City's motto is "Progress with Stability", reflecting their steady growth and development over the years. Despite the challenges they have faced, the club has always remained true to its roots, maintaining a strong connection with the local community and promoting the values of fair play and sportsmanship.

In recent years, Edinburgh City has continued to make strides both on and off the pitch. The club has invested in improving its facilities and infrastructure, while also strengthening its squad. With a dedicated fan base and a clear vision for the future, Edinburgh City is a club that is firmly on the rise in Scottish football.
