FK Minyor Pernik is a professional football club based in Pernik, Bulgaria. The club was initially established in 1919 under the name Sports Club Pernik. It was not until 1952 that the club adopted its current name, FK Minyor Pernik, in honor of the city's rich mining history, as "Minyor" translates to "Miner" in English.
The club's colors are black and white, and their home games are played at the Minyor Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 8,000. The club's emblem is a football encircled by a gear, symbolizing Pernik's industrial heritage.
FK Minyor Pernik has a long history in Bulgarian football. The club has spent most of its existence in the top tier of Bulgarian football, the First Professional Football League, also known as the Parva Liga. Over the years, the club has had several successful seasons, with their most notable achievement being their third-place finish in the 1957-1958 season.
The club has also had success in the Bulgarian Cup, reaching the final twice. In 1961, they finished as runners-up, and in 1989, they won the competition, which remains the club's most significant achievement to date. This victory also earned them a place in the 1989-1990 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, marking their first and only appearance in European competitions.
FK Minyor Pernik has produced several notable players who have represented the Bulgarian national team, including Petar Zhekov, who was the top scorer in the Bulgarian league for four seasons and was named Bulgarian Footballer of the Year in 1966 and 1972.
However, the club has faced challenges in recent years. Financial difficulties led to their relegation from the First League at the end of the 2010-2011 season. Since then, the club has been competing in the lower tiers of Bulgarian football. Despite these challenges, FK Minyor Pernik remains a significant part of the city's identity and continues to contribute to Bulgarian football.
The club's fan base, known as the "Miners," is passionate and loyal. They are known for their unwavering support, regardless of the club's performance or league standing. FK Minyor Pernik's rich history, passionate fan base, and commitment to the sport make it a noteworthy institution in Bulgarian football.
