Lyngby Boldklub, commonly known as Lyngby BK or simply Lyngby, is a professional Danish football club based in Kongens Lyngby, a town in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen. Founded in 1921, Lyngby BK has a rich history and has played an integral role in the development of Danish football.
Lyngby BK has spent the majority of its history in the top-tier of Danish football, the Danish Superliga. The club's golden era came in the late 1980s and early 1990s when it won the Danish championship in 1983 and 1992, and the Danish Cup in 1984 and 1985. The club also had a successful run in European competitions during this period, reaching the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup in the 1991-92 season.
Lyngby BK is known for its strong youth development program, which has produced numerous players who have gone on to have successful careers in Denmark and abroad. Some of the club's most notable alumni include Danish internationals Thomas Kristensen, Dennis Rommedahl, and Morten Nordstrand.
In recent years, Lyngby BK has faced financial difficulties, which led to its relegation from the Danish Superliga in 2018. However, the club has shown resilience and determination in the face of adversity. After spending a season in the second-tier Danish 1st Division, Lyngby BK made a triumphant return to the Superliga in 2019.
Lyngby BK's home ground is the Lyngby Stadion, which has a capacity of 10,000 spectators. The club's traditional colors are royal blue and white, and its emblem features a Viking ship, reflecting the town's historical connection to the Viking Age. The club's supporters are known for their passionate and loyal backing of the team, creating a vibrant atmosphere at home games.
Despite its ups and downs, Lyngby BK remains a beloved institution in Danish football. The club's commitment to nurturing young talent, its history of success, and its unwavering spirit in the face of challenges have earned it a special place in the hearts of its fans and the wider Danish football community.
