Association Sportive Nancy-Lorraine, commonly known as AS Nancy or simply Nancy, is a professional football club based in Nancy, France. Established in 1967, the club plays its home games at the Stade Marcel Picot, which can accommodate over 20,000 spectators.
Nancy is renowned for its youth academy, which has produced several notable players who have gone on to have successful careers both domestically and internationally. These include Michel Platini, one of the greatest French players of all time, and more recently, Moroccan international Youssouf Hadji.
The club's most successful period came in the late 1970s under the stewardship of coach Aimé Jacquet, who later led the French national team to victory in the 1998 World Cup. During this time, Nancy won the Coupe de France in 1978 and achieved a highest-ever finish of fourth in Ligue 1, the top tier of French football, in the 1975-76 season.
In recent years, Nancy has experienced a series of promotions and relegations between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. Their last stint in the top flight was in the 2016-17 season. Despite these fluctuations, the club has managed to maintain a strong fan base and remains an integral part of the local community.
Nancy's traditional colors are red and white, and their club emblem features a rampant lion, a symbol of the Lorraine region. The club's motto, "Passion Ferveur Fidélité" (Passion, Fervor, Loyalty), encapsulates the spirit of the team and its supporters.
Throughout its history, AS Nancy has been known for its commitment to nurturing young talent and playing attractive, attacking football. Despite its ups and downs, the club continues to hold a respected place in French football, with a rich history and a promising future.
