Grêmio Novorizontino, commonly known as Novorizontino, is a professional football club based in Novo Horizonte, São Paulo, Brazil. The club was founded on March 12, 1973, initially as Grêmio Esportivo Novorizontino. However, after facing financial difficulties, the club was dissolved in 1999. It was later reestablished in 2010 as Grêmio Novorizontino, and since then, it has been a prominent part of the São Paulo state football scene.
Novorizontino's team colors are yellow and black, and their home games are played at the Dr. Jorge Ismael de Biasi stadium, which has a seating capacity of over 16,000 spectators. The club's mascot is a tiger, and hence, they are affectionally known as "Tigre" by their fans.
In its early years, Novorizontino enjoyed considerable success. The club reached the finals of the São Paulo State Championship, also known as Paulistão, in 1990, where they faced the renowned Santos FC. Despite not winning the championship, reaching the finals was a significant achievement that put Novorizontino on the map of Brazilian football.
After its reestablishment in 2010, Novorizontino steadily climbed the ranks of São Paulo state football. The club won the Campeonato Paulista Série A3 in 2014, earning promotion to the Campeonato Paulista Série A2, the second tier of São Paulo state football. In 2016, they secured promotion to the top tier, the Campeonato Paulista Série A1, by finishing runners-up in the Série A2.
Novorizontino has also made appearances in the Copa do Brasil, Brazil's premier club football competition. They reached the second round in 2017 and 2019, demonstrating their competitiveness against some of the country's top clubs.
Despite its relatively short history, Novorizontino has developed a reputation for nurturing young talent. The club's youth academy has produced several players who have gone on to play in Brazil's top-flight leagues and abroad.
Novorizontino's journey is a testament to resilience and passion for football. From its early successes to its dissolution and subsequent revival, the club has remained a symbol of pride for the people of Novo Horizonte. As they continue to compete in the top tiers of Brazilian football, Novorizontino's story is far from over.
