Orense Sporting Club, commonly known as Orense SC, is a professional football club based in Machala, El Oro Province, Ecuador. Founded on March 6, 2015, the club is relatively new to the Ecuadorian football scene but has already made its mark by climbing the ranks swiftly and consistently.
Orense SC's journey to the top tiers of Ecuadorian football has been nothing short of remarkable. Despite its recent inception, the club has shown a level of ambition and determination that has seen it rise from the lower divisions to the top-flight Serie A in just a few years.
The club's colors are yellow and green, and they play their home games at the Estadio 9 de Mayo, which has a seating capacity of approximately 16,500 spectators. The stadium is named after the date of the Battle of Pichincha, a historical event in Ecuador's fight for independence from Spain.
Orense SC's rapid rise began when they won the Segunda Categoria, the third tier of Ecuadorian football, in 2017. This victory earned them promotion to the Serie B. After two seasons in the Serie B, Orense SC achieved another promotion in 2019 by finishing in the top two, thereby securing their place in the Serie A for the 2020 season.
This achievement marked a significant milestone in the club's history as they became the first team from the province of El Oro to participate in the Serie A in over a decade. Their debut season in the top flight was a challenging one, but they managed to retain their status in the Serie A, demonstrating their potential and ambition.
Orense SC's success can be attributed to a combination of factors, including a strong management team, a dedicated coaching staff, and a squad of talented players. The club's philosophy is centered around nurturing young talent and promoting them to the first team, which has proven to be a successful strategy.
Despite its short history, Orense SC has already developed a passionate fan base. Known as 'La Ola Verde' (The Green Wave), the club's supporters are renowned for their fervor and loyalty, creating an electrifying atmosphere at home games.
While Orense SC is still in the early stages of its journey, the club has already shown that it has the ambition and potential to become a mainstay in Ecuadorian football. With a clear vision for the future and a commitment to developing young talent, Orense SC is a club to watch in the coming years.
