Pattaya United Football Club, also known as the "Blue Dolphins," was a professional football club based in Pattaya, Thailand. Established in 2009, the club was a significant part of the Thai football landscape until its merger with Bangkok Glass FC in 2019.
The club was born out of the merger of two existing teams, Coke-Bangpra FC and Hua Hin FC, with the aim to bring top-tier football to the city of Pattaya. The team's home ground was the Nongprue Municipality Stadium, a venue with a capacity of 5,500 spectators.
Pattaya United FC competed in the Thai Premier League, the highest level of professional football in Thailand. The team's colors were blue and white, symbolizing the waves of the sea, reflecting the city's coastal location. The club's emblem featured a dolphin, earning them the nickname "Blue Dolphins."
Throughout its decade-long existence, Pattaya United FC had its fair share of ups and downs. The team managed to secure a place in the Thai Premier League in its inaugural year, 2009, and maintained its position in the top-tier league for most of its existence. However, the club also faced relegation to the Thai Division 1 League in 2013, only to bounce back to the Thai Premier League the following year.
The club was known for its multicultural squad, with players from various nationalities including Brazil, Nigeria, and South Korea, among others. This diversity was a testament to the club's commitment to attracting international talent and enhancing the quality of football in the region.
Pattaya United FC's most successful season came in 2016 when they finished 9th in the Thai Premier League, their highest ever finish. The club also reached the quarterfinals of the Thai FA Cup in 2010 and 2017, marking their best performances in national cup competitions.
Despite these achievements, the club faced financial difficulties and struggled to maintain a consistent performance level. This led to the decision to merge with Bangkok Glass FC in 2019, marking the end of Pattaya United FC. The merger resulted in the formation of a new club, BG Pathum United FC, which continues to compete in the Thai Premier League.
Throughout its existence, Pattaya United FC contributed significantly to the development of football in Pattaya and broader Thailand. It provided a platform for local and international players to showcase their talent and brought top-tier football to the city of Pattaya. Although the club no longer exists, its legacy lives on through BG Pathum United FC and the memories of its passionate fans.
