About Pécsi MFC

Pécsi Mecsek Football Club, commonly known as Pécsi MFC, is a professional football club based in Pécs, Hungary. Established in 1950, the club has a rich history in Hungarian football, having spent several seasons in the country's top-tier league, the Nemzeti Bajnokság I, and winning prestigious titles.

Pécsi MFC was founded as Pécsi Dózsa and underwent several name changes before settling on its current name in 1995. The club's early years were marked by steady growth, with the team gradually climbing the ranks of Hungarian football. The 1960s and 1970s were particularly successful periods for Pécsi MFC, with the club regularly finishing in the top half of the league table.

In the 1980s, Pécsi MFC enjoyed its most successful period, winning the Hungarian Cup in 1986 and 1990. The club also achieved its highest ever league finish in the 1985-86 season, ending in second place. This period also saw Pécsi MFC make its mark in European football, with the club participating in the UEFA Cup and the Cup Winners' Cup.

Despite these successes, Pécsi MFC faced financial difficulties in the 1990s and early 2000s, which led to a period of instability and relegation to the lower leagues. However, the club has shown resilience, bouncing back to the top flight on several occasions.

The club's home ground is the PMFC Stadium, also known as the Pécs City Stadium, which has a capacity of over 4,000. The stadium is known for its passionate and loyal fan base, who are known as the "Red-Blacks" in reference to the club's traditional red and black colors.

Pécsi MFC has also been known for its youth development, with a number of players going on to have successful careers in Hungary and abroad. The club's youth academy, the Pécsi MFC Football Academy, is one of the most respected in the country.

Despite its ups and downs, Pécsi MFC remains an important part of Hungarian football history. The club's resilience, passionate fan base, and commitment to youth development have ensured its enduring presence in the sport. Today, Pécsi MFC continues to compete in the Hungarian football league system, striving to return to its former glory and add to its rich history.
