About San Antonio

San Antonio Football Club is a professional soccer team based in San Antonio, Texas. Founded in 2016, the club is a member of the United Soccer League (USL), the second tier of the American soccer pyramid. The club is owned by Spurs Sports & Entertainment, a group that also owns the NBA's San Antonio Spurs, and plays its home matches at Toyota Field, a soccer-specific stadium with a seating capacity of 8,000.

San Antonio FC was established with a clear vision of providing the highest level of soccer to the San Antonio community. The club's inception marked the return of professional soccer to San Antonio after the San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League ceased operations in 2015. The establishment of San Antonio FC was also seen as a strategic move to bring Major League Soccer (MLS) to the city.

In its inaugural season, San Antonio FC finished tenth in the Western Conference. However, the club quickly improved and finished second in the Western Conference in 2017, earning a spot in the USL playoffs. Despite its short existence, San Antonio FC has already produced players who have gone on to play in the MLS and overseas.

San Antonio FC is known for its strong community ties and commitment to youth development. The club operates a successful academy program, San Antonio FC Pro Academy, which aims to identify and develop the best young talent in the San Antonio area. The academy has teams from the U-12 to U-16 age groups and competes in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy league.

The club's colors are black, silver, and red, reflecting the colors of the San Antonio Spurs. The team's crest features a silhouette of the Alamo, a symbol of the city's rich history, and two crossed swords, representing the club's fighting spirit. The team's mascot is a red-tailed hawk named "Mission", named after the missions of San Antonio.

San Antonio FC has a passionate fan base, with supporters' groups such as the "Mission City Firm" and the "210 Alliance" providing a vibrant atmosphere at home games. These groups are known for their enthusiastic support, including singing, chanting, and displaying banners and flags.

Despite its relatively short history, San Antonio FC has established itself as a significant part of the San Antonio sports landscape and a key player in the American soccer scene. The club's commitment to excellence on and off the pitch, as well as its dedication to community engagement and youth development, has set a strong foundation for future success.
