About Santiago Morning

Santiago Morning is a professional football club based in Santiago, the capital city of Chile. The club was founded on October 16, 1903, making it one of the oldest football clubs in the country. It was initially established as a cricket club by a group of English immigrants, but soon shifted its focus to football, which was gaining popularity in Chile at the time.

The name "Santiago Morning" is a combination of two separate entities - Santiago Football Club and Morning Star, which merged in 1936. The name Morning Star was inspired by the Morning Star newspaper in London, reflecting the club's British origins.

Santiago Morning has a rich history and has contributed significantly to Chilean football. The club has won the Chilean Primera División, the top tier of Chilean football, four times, with their most recent title coming in 1942. Despite their early success, the club has spent much of its recent history in the Primera B, the second division of Chilean football.

The club's home ground is the Estadio Municipal de La Pintana, a multi-purpose stadium in Santiago. The stadium, which has a capacity of 6,000, has been the club's home since 1986. Prior to this, Santiago Morning played their home games at a variety of different venues, including the Estadio Nacional, the largest stadium in Chile.

Santiago Morning is known for its youth development program, which has produced a number of players who have gone on to represent the Chilean national team. The club is also recognized for its commitment to social issues. In 2020, Santiago Morning became the first professional football club in the world to have a transgender player, Mara Gomez, in their women's team.

The club's colors are black and white, and their emblem features a rising sun, a nod to their name. Santiago Morning's fans are known as "Bohemios" (Bohemians), reflecting the club's roots in the bohemian culture of early 20th century Santiago.

Despite its ups and downs, Santiago Morning remains a beloved institution in Chilean football. The club's long history, commitment to youth development, and pioneering stance on social issues make it a unique and important part of the Chilean football landscape.
