About Thonon Évian

Thonon Évian Grand Genève Football Club, commonly known as Thonon Évian or simply TE, is a French football club based in the town of Thonon-les-Bains, located in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The club was founded in 2007 as Évian Thonon Gaillard Football Club following the merger of two local clubs, Football Croix-de-Savoie 74 and Olympique Thonon Chablais.

The club quickly rose through the ranks of French football, achieving three successive promotions from the Championnat de France Amateur 2 (the fifth tier of French football) to Ligue 1, the top tier of French football, in just four seasons. This rapid ascent was largely due to the financial backing of Danone, a multinational food-products corporation, whose CEO Franck Riboud was born in the region.

Thonon Évian enjoyed its most successful period in Ligue 1 between 2011 and 2015. The club's highest finish came in the 2011-2012 season when they ended the campaign in ninth place. In the 2012-2013 season, they reached the final of the Coupe de France, the premier knockout cup competition in French football, but were defeated by Bordeaux.

However, the club's fortunes took a turn for the worse in the 2014-2015 season when they were relegated from Ligue 1. This was followed by a further relegation from Ligue 2 in the 2015-2016 season due to financial irregularities. The club was then administratively relegated to the fifth tier of French football, the Championnat National 3, for the 2016-2017 season.

In 2016, the club changed its name to Thonon Évian Football Club and then to Thonon Évian Grand Genève Football Club in 2020, reflecting its ambition to represent the wider region. Despite these setbacks, the club has shown resilience and determination to climb back up the ranks of French football. As of the 2021-2022 season, Thonon Évian competes in the Championnat National 2, the fourth tier of French football.

Thonon Évian's home matches are played at the Stade Joseph-Moynat, a stadium with a capacity of 2,700 spectators. The club's traditional colours are pink and white, a unique choice in the world of football, which is reflected in their distinctive kit.

Throughout its history, Thonon Évian has been known for its commitment to youth development, with its academy producing several players who have gone on to have successful careers in professional football. Despite the ups and downs, Thonon Évian remains a beloved institution in the region, with a dedicated fan base that continues to support the club through thick and thin.
