Club Atlético Unión, commonly known as Unión Santa Fe, is a professional football club based in Santa Fe, Argentina. Founded on April 15, 1907, it is one of the oldest football clubs in Argentina. The club's colors are red and white, and its nickname is "Tatengues," a term that refers to the workers of the TATE (Tranvía Automotor de Santa Fe), a local tramway company.
Unión Santa Fe's home ground is the Estadio 15 de Abril, named in honor of the club's founding date. The stadium, which can accommodate approximately 26,000 spectators, is known for its passionate and dedicated fan base.
Throughout its history, Unión Santa Fe has had several notable achievements. The club has participated in the Argentine Primera División, the top tier of Argentine football, for many seasons. Unión Santa Fe's best performance in the Primera División was during the 1979 Metropolitano championship when they reached the final but were defeated by River Plate.
In 1989, Unión Santa Fe achieved its first and only title in the top division, the Copa de Oro, defeating Boca Juniors in the final. The club has also had success in the second division, winning the Primera B Nacional title in 1966 and 1979.
Despite its successes, Unión Santa Fe has also faced challenges. The club has experienced relegation from the Primera División several times, most recently in 2011. However, they have always managed to regain their position in the top tier, demonstrating the resilience and determination that characterizes the club.
Unión Santa Fe has also contributed significantly to Argentine football by producing many talented players who have gone on to have successful careers both domestically and internationally. Notable alumni include World Cup winners Nery Pumpido and Jorge Valdano.
