Club Deportivo Audax Italiano La Florida, commonly known as Audax Italiano, is a professional football club based in La Florida, Santiago, Chile. The club was founded on November 30, 1910, by Italian immigrants who wanted to establish a sports club that would reflect their Italian heritage. The club's name, "Audax", is Latin for "bold", reflecting the founders' adventurous spirit.
Audax Italiano has a rich history in Chilean football, having participated in the country's top-tier league, the Campeonato Nacional, for many decades. The club has won the league title four times, with their most recent championship coming in the 1957 season. They have also been runners-up on several occasions.
The club's home matches are played at the Estadio Bicentenario de La Florida, a modern stadium with a capacity of 12,000 spectators. The stadium is known for its vibrant atmosphere, with the club's passionate supporters, known as the "audinos", providing a colourful backdrop to matches.
Over the years, Audax Italiano has developed a reputation for nurturing young talent. The club's youth academy has produced several players who have gone on to represent the Chilean national team, including Carlos Labrín, Bryan Carrasco, and Sebastián Vegas. The club's commitment to youth development is reflected in its motto, "La Fábrica de Sueños", which translates as "The Dream Factory".
Audax Italiano's traditional colours are green and white, which feature prominently in the club's crest and kit. The crest is a shield divided into two halves, with the left side featuring a green and white striped pattern, and the right side featuring the club's initials, "AI", in green on a white background. The club's kit typically consists of a green and white striped shirt, white shorts, and green socks.
The club has a long-standing rivalry with Unión Española, another Santiago-based club with immigrant roots. Matches between the two teams, known as the "Clásico de Colonias", are highly anticipated events in the Chilean football calendar.
In recent years, Audax Italiano has also competed in international competitions, such as the Copa Sudamericana and the Copa Libertadores, further enhancing its reputation as one of Chile's leading football clubs.
Audax Italiano is more than just a football club; it is a symbol of Italian heritage in Chile, a breeding ground for young talent, and a source of pride for its loyal supporters. Despite the ups and downs that come with being a professional football club, Audax Italiano remains committed to its founding principles of boldness, ambition, and community.
