Club Deportivo Universidad César Vallejo is a professional football club based in Trujillo, Peru. Named after the renowned Peruvian poet, César Vallejo, the club was founded on January 6, 1996, by César Acuña Peralta, a businessman and politician, who also founded the César Vallejo University.
The club's journey in Peruvian football started from the Copa Perú, the third division of the Peruvian football league system. After winning the Copa Perú in 2003, they earned promotion to the Peruvian Segunda División, the second division. Their stay in the second division was short-lived as they won the division in their first season, earning promotion to the top-tier Peruvian Primera División in 2004.
César Vallejo has been a consistent performer in the Primera División, often finishing in the top half of the table. Their best finish came in the 2012 season when they finished second. The club also had a successful run in the 2014 Copa Sudamericana, reaching the quarterfinals, which is their best performance in a continental competition to date.
The club's home ground is the Estadio Mansiche, located in Trujillo. With a seating capacity of over 20,000, it is one of the largest stadiums in Peru. The team's colors are blue and white, and their nickname is "Los Poetas" (The Poets), in honor of their namesake, César Vallejo.
Despite its relatively short history, César Vallejo has managed to establish itself as a competitive team in Peruvian football. The club has also contributed to the development of Peruvian football by nurturing local talents and providing them with opportunities to showcase their skills at the highest level.
The club's philosophy is deeply rooted in the values of discipline, hard work, and teamwork, which are reflected in their performances on the pitch. César Vallejo's vision is not just to achieve success in football, but also to contribute to society by promoting sports and education among the youth.
As of today, César Vallejo continues to strive for excellence, both on and off the pitch. The club is committed to maintaining its competitive edge in Peruvian football and making a mark in continental competitions. At the same time, it continues to uphold its social responsibility by promoting sports and education in the community.
