El Gouna FC is a professional football club based in El Gouna, Egypt. The club was founded in 2003 by Samih Sawiris, a prominent Egyptian businessman and part of the Sawiris family, one of the wealthiest families in Egypt. The club is part of the El Gouna resort community on the Red Sea, which is also owned by the Sawiris family.
Since its inception, El Gouna FC has steadily risen through the ranks of Egyptian football. The club started in the third division of the Egyptian football league system and quickly gained promotion to the second division. In 2009, just six years after its establishment, the club achieved its most significant milestone by gaining promotion to the Egyptian Premier League, the top tier of Egyptian football.
El Gouna FC's time in the Premier League has been characterized by a series of promotions and relegations. Despite this, the club has managed to establish itself as a competitive team in the league. The club's best finish in the Premier League came in the 2018-2019 season when it finished in 9th place.
The club's home ground is the El Gouna Stadium, a modern facility with a capacity of 12,000 spectators. The stadium is located within the El Gouna resort and is known for its picturesque setting, surrounded by the Red Sea and the Eastern Desert mountains.
El Gouna FC's colours are blue and white, reflecting the coastal location of the club. The club's logo features a football and a seahorse, symbolizing the club's connection to the sea. The team is affectionately known as "The Seahorses" by its fans.
Over the years, El Gouna FC has developed a reputation for nurturing young Egyptian talent. The club's youth academy is considered one of the best in the country, producing several players who have gone on to represent the Egyptian national team.
El Gouna FC is more than just a football club; it is a symbol of the El Gouna community. The club plays a significant role in the local community, engaging in various social initiatives and contributing to the development of the region. The club's vision, as stated by its founder, is to use football as a tool for social change and community development.
Despite its relatively short history, El Gouna FC has made a significant impact on Egyptian football. The club's rise through the ranks, its commitment to youth development, and its engagement with the local community have made it a model for other clubs in the country. As El Gouna FC continues to grow and develop, it is set to play an even more significant role in the future of Egyptian football.
