Erzurum Büyükşehir Belediyespor, commonly known as Erzurum BB, is a professional football club based in Erzurum, Turkey. Established in 2005, the club has quickly risen through the ranks of Turkish football, demonstrating a level of ambition and determination that has seen them compete in the top tier of Turkish football, the Süper Lig.
The club was founded by the Erzurum Metropolitan Municipality, hence the "BB" in the club's name, which stands for Büyükşehir Belediyesi (Metropolitan Municipality). The club's primary colors are blue and white, reflecting the snowy landscapes of their home city, which is one of the coldest in Turkey. The club's emblem features a snowflake, further emphasizing their connection to their frosty home city.
Erzurum BB's journey to the top of Turkish football has been nothing short of remarkable. Starting in the amateur leagues, the club achieved promotion to the TFF Third League in 2008. They continued their ascent, reaching the TFF Second League in 2010, and the TFF First League in 2015. In the 2017-2018 season, Erzurum BB achieved promotion to the Süper Lig for the first time in their history, marking a meteoric rise through the ranks of Turkish football.
The club's home ground is the Kazım Karabekir Stadium, named after a famous Turkish general. The stadium has a capacity of nearly 24,000 and is known for its passionate and vocal home support. Despite their relatively short history, Erzurum BB has developed a fervent fan base, known as "Blue Lightning", who are renowned for their unwavering support.
Erzurum BB's time in the Süper Lig has been marked by a series of ups and downs, with the club facing relegation and promotion in subsequent seasons. Despite these challenges, the club has shown resilience and ambition, regularly investing in new players and infrastructure in a bid to establish themselves as a mainstay in the top tier of Turkish football.
Over the years, Erzurum BB has been home to many notable players and coaches, both from Turkey and abroad. These include former Turkish international Hamdi Salihi, and Mehmet Özdilek, a former Turkish international who has also managed the club.
Erzurum BB's rapid rise through the ranks of Turkish football, their passionate fan base, and their commitment to growth and development, make them a unique and exciting club in the landscape of Turkish football.
