Established in 1986, Estac Troyes, officially known as Espérance Sportive Troyes Aube Champagne, is a professional football club based in Troyes, France. The club competes in Ligue 1, the top tier of French football, following their promotion from Ligue 2 in the 2020-2021 season.
Estac Troyes was born out of the merger of two local clubs, AS Troyes Savinienne and TAF. The club's early years were marked by a steady rise through the lower tiers of French football, culminating in their first promotion to Ligue 1 in 1999. Since then, they have experienced several promotions and relegations between the top two tiers.
The club's home ground is the Stade de l'Aube, a venue with a capacity of over 20,000 spectators, located in the heart of Troyes. The stadium has witnessed many memorable moments in the club's history, including their first Ligue 1 campaign and their Coupe de la Ligue triumph in 2001.
Estac Troyes' traditional colors are blue and white, which are prominently featured in their crest and kit. The club's emblem, a stylized representation of a champagne cork, is a nod to the region's famous sparkling wine industry.
Over the years, Estac Troyes has developed a reputation for nurturing young talent. The club's youth academy has produced several players who have gone on to represent France at the international level, including Blaise Matuidi and Jimmy Cabot.
In terms of silverware, Estac Troyes' most notable achievement is winning the Coupe de la Ligue in 2001. This remains their only major trophy to date, but the club has also enjoyed success in the Championnat National, the third tier of French football, which they have won twice.
In 2020, the club entered a new era when it was acquired by City Football Group, the owners of Manchester City, among other clubs. This partnership has brought increased investment and ambition, with the club aiming to establish itself as a regular fixture in Ligue 1.
Despite the ups and downs, Estac Troyes remains a beloved institution in the Champagne region. The club's passionate fan base, known as the 'Troyes Army', is renowned for its unwavering support, regardless of the team's fortunes on the pitch.
In conclusion, Estac Troyes may not boast the same illustrious history as some of France's more renowned clubs, but their resilience, commitment to youth development, and strong community ties make them a unique and cherished part of French football.
