FK Neftekhimik is a professional football club based in Nizhnekamsk, Russia. Founded in 1968, the club has spent most of its history in the lower tiers of Russian football, but has also had periods in the Russian Football National League, the second highest division in Russian football.
The club's name, Neftekhimik, translates to "Petrochemist", reflecting the town's main industry. Nizhnekamsk is known for its petrochemical plant, and the club was initially established as the plant's team. The club's logo also features a stylized molecule, further emphasizing its connection to the petrochemical industry.
FK Neftekhimik's home ground is the Neftekhimik Stadium, which has a capacity of 10,500 spectators. The stadium, like the club, has a strong connection to the town's industry, as it was built by workers from the Nizhnekamskneftekhim plant.
Despite its relatively modest status in Russian football, FK Neftekhimik has had some notable successes. The club has won the Ural-Povolzhye zone of the Russian Professional Football League (the third highest division in Russian football) multiple times, most recently in the 2018-2019 season. This victory secured the club's promotion to the Russian Football National League for the 2019-2020 season.
FK Neftekhimik has also produced several players who have gone on to have successful careers in higher divisions of Russian football, and even internationally. These include forward Igor Lebedenko, who has played for several Russian Premier League clubs and the Russian national team, and midfielder Denis Tkachuk, who has also played in the Russian Premier League.
Despite the challenges of competing in a country with such a vast and competitive football landscape, FK Neftekhimik has managed to carve out a niche for itself. The club's strong connection to its local community and industry, its history of producing talented players, and its occasional successes on the pitch have made it a beloved institution in Nizhnekamsk and a respected competitor in Russian football.
