About Águila

Club Deportivo Águila, commonly known as Águila, is a professional football club based in San Miguel, El Salvador. Founded on February 15, 1926, the club has a rich history and is one of the most successful football teams in the country. Águila competes in the Salvadoran Primera División, the top tier of El Salvador football.

The club's name, Águila, translates to "Eagle" in English, a symbol of strength and power that the team has embodied throughout its history. The team's colors are orange and black, and they play their home games at the Estadio Juan Francisco Barraza, a stadium with a capacity of 10,000 spectators.

Throughout its history, Águila has won numerous national titles, making it one of the most decorated clubs in El Salvador. The club has won the Salvadoran Primera División title 15 times, with their most recent victory coming in the 2018-2019 season. In addition to their domestic success, Águila has also made a name for itself in international competitions. The team has participated in the CONCACAF Champions League, the premier club competition in North and Central America, on multiple occasions.

Águila has a passionate fan base, known for their unwavering support of the team. The club's supporters are known as "aguiluchos," a term of endearment that translates to "little eagles." The team's rivalry with Alianza F.C., one of the other major clubs in El Salvador, is one of the most intense in Central American football. Matches between the two teams, known as "El Clásico Nacional," draw large crowds and are highlights of the Salvadoran football calendar.

The club has also been home to many notable players throughout its history. Some of the most famous include Luis Ramírez Zapata, considered one of the greatest Salvadoran footballers of all time, and Raúl Magaña, a prolific striker who played for the club in the 1980s. The club has also been a launching pad for many players who have gone on to successful careers in other leagues around the world.

Despite facing challenges, including financial difficulties and periods of less competitive play, Águila has remained a fixture in Salvadoran football. The club's commitment to developing local talent, combined with its rich history and passionate fan base, ensure that Águila will continue to be a force in Salvadoran football for years to come.
