Hrvatski Dragovoljac is a professional football club based in Novi Zagreb, Croatia. The club, whose name translates to "Croatian Volunteer," has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1975. Originally named NK Trnsko, the club changed its name to Hrvatski Dragovoljac in 1994, in honor of the volunteers of the Croatian War of Independence.
The club's colors are black and white, and they play their home games at the Stadion NŠC Stjepan Spajić, which has a seating capacity of around 5,000. The club's emblem features a knight, symbolizing the bravery and courage of the Croatian volunteers.
Hrvatski Dragovoljac has spent most of its history in the second tier of Croatian football, the Druga HNL. However, they have had several stints in the top flight, Prva HNL, with their most successful period coming in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The club's highest finish in the top division was 4th place in the 1998–99 season.
Despite not having a trophy-laden history, Hrvatski Dragovoljac is known for its strong youth development program. The club has produced several players who have gone on to represent the Croatian national team and play in some of Europe's top leagues.
Hrvatski Dragovoljac's fan base, known as the Black Warriors, is passionate and loyal. They are known for their vocal support during matches and their dedication to the club, often traveling to away games in large numbers.
In recent years, the club has faced financial difficulties, leading to relegation due to administrative issues. However, Hrvatski Dragovoljac has always shown resilience, bouncing back to continue its mission of nurturing young talent and representing the spirit of Croatian volunteers on the football field.
The club's motto, "Loyalty, Honor, Pride," embodies the values that Hrvatski Dragovoljac stands for. Despite the ups and downs, the club remains a symbol of Croatian football, continuing to inspire future generations of players and fans alike.
