Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club, commonly known as Inverness CT or ICT, is a professional football club based in Inverness, Scotland. The club was founded in 1994 following the merger of two local clubs, Caledonian and Inverness Thistle. The merger was aimed at creating a team that could represent the city in the Scottish Football League, and it was successful, with the club being elected to join the league in the same year.
Inverness CT plays its home games at the Caledonian Stadium, a venue with a capacity of around 7,750 spectators. The team's colours are blue and red, and their nickname is "The Caley Jags", a combination of the names of the two original clubs.
Inverness CT quickly climbed the ranks of Scottish football, reaching the top tier, the Scottish Premiership, for the first time in 2004. The club has since established itself as a regular competitor in the Premiership, with several top-six finishes. The 2014-2015 season was particularly successful for Inverness CT, as they won the Scottish Cup for the first time in their history, defeating Falkirk in the final. This victory also earned them a place in the Europa League, marking their debut in European competition.
Despite their successes, Inverness CT has also faced challenges. The club was relegated to the Scottish Championship, the second tier of Scottish football, in 2017. However, they have remained competitive, consistently finishing in the top half of the Championship table and reaching the play-offs on multiple occasions.
Inverness CT is known for its community focus, with a strong youth development programme and close ties to the local area. The club's motto, "Our City, Our Team", reflects this commitment to representing Inverness and the wider Highlands region.
Throughout its relatively short history, Inverness CT has become a symbol of ambition and progress in Scottish football. Despite the ups and downs, the club continues to strive for success, both on and off the pitch. With a dedicated fanbase and a strong community spirit, Inverness CT remains a significant force in Scottish football.
