Molde Fotballklubb, commonly known as Molde FK, is a professional football club based in Molde, Norway. Established in 1911, the club has a rich history and is one of the most successful football clubs in Norway. Molde FK competes in the Eliteserien, the top tier of Norwegian football, and plays its home matches at the Aker Stadion, which has a capacity of 11,800 spectators.
The club's history is marked by fluctuating fortunes, with periods of success interspersed with spells of struggle. However, Molde FK has always been known for its fighting spirit and resilience, qualities that have seen it bounce back from adversity on numerous occasions.
Molde FK's first major success came in 1994 when it won the Norwegian Cup, a feat it has repeated three more times in 2005, 2013, and 2014. The club's golden era, however, began in 2011 when it won its first Eliteserien title under the stewardship of former Manchester United player, Ole Gunnar Solskjær. This triumph marked the beginning of a period of dominance, with the club winning the league title again in 2012 and 2014.
The club's success has not been limited to domestic competitions. Molde FK has also made its mark in European football, reaching the group stages of the UEFA Champions League in 1999-2000 and the UEFA Europa League in 2012-13 and 2015-16. The club's best performance in European competition came in the 2015-16 season when it reached the Round of 32 in the UEFA Europa League.
Molde FK is renowned for its youth development, with a number of players from its academy going on to have successful careers in football. The most notable among these is Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who went on to become a legend at Manchester United and later returned to Molde FK as a manager.
The club's colors are blue and white, and its emblem features a whale, a nod to the city's whaling history. The club's supporters are known as "Moldejordet" and are renowned for their passionate and unwavering support.
In recent years, Molde FK has continued to be a force in Norwegian football, consistently finishing in the top half of the Eliteserien table and regularly qualifying for European competition. The club's commitment to youth development, combined with a strong winning mentality, ensures that Molde FK remains one of the most respected and successful clubs in Norwegian football.
