Perth Glory Football Club is a professional football club based in Perth, Western Australia. Established in 1995, it competes in the A-League, the highest level of professional football in Australia, under the license of Football Federation Australia.
The club's inception was marked by a period of dominance in the now-defunct National Soccer League (NSL), where it claimed two championships and three premierships. Perth Glory's early success was driven by a host of talented players, including Australian internationals such as Damian Mori and Bobby Despotovski, who remain the club's two highest goal scorers.
The transition from the NSL to the A-League in 2005 brought a challenging period for Perth Glory. However, the club managed to regain its competitive edge, reaching the A-League Grand Final in 2012 and 2019. Despite losing both finals, these campaigns re-established Perth Glory as a force within Australian football.
Perth Glory's home ground is HBF Park, formerly known as NIB Stadium, located in the suburb of Perth. The stadium can accommodate over 20,000 spectators and is known for creating an intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams. The club's traditional colours are purple and white, a unique combination in Australian football, leading to their nickname, "The Glory".
The club has a strong following, with a passionate fan base known as the "Glory Shed". These supporters are renowned for their unwavering loyalty and vocal support, creating a vibrant match-day atmosphere at HBF Park.
Off the field, Perth Glory has made significant contributions to the development of football in Western Australia. The club runs a successful academy system, which has produced several players who have gone on to represent the club at the senior level and gain international recognition.
Despite its ups and downs, Perth Glory remains one of the most respected and successful clubs in Australian football. Its history is marked by a commitment to excellence, a passionate fan base, and a significant contribution to the development of football in Western Australia. The club's vision is to continue building on its rich history and strive for success in the A-League and beyond.
