Resovia Rzeszów is a professional football club based in Rzeszów, Poland. Founded in 1905, it is one of the oldest football clubs in the country, with a rich history that spans over a century. The club plays its home games at the Stadion Miejski, a modern facility with a seating capacity of over 10,000 spectators.
Resovia Rzeszów has spent the majority of its existence in the lower tiers of Polish football. However, the club has had its moments of glory. It has competed in the top-flight Ekstraklasa on several occasions, with the most recent stint occurring in the 1980s. Despite not being a regular fixture in the top tier, Resovia Rzeszów has produced a number of notable players who have gone on to represent the Polish national team.
The club's most successful period came in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when it won promotion to the Ekstraklasa and achieved its highest-ever league finish. Despite these achievements, Resovia Rzeszów has never won the Polish Cup, although it has reached the final on two occasions.
Resovia Rzeszów's traditional colors are red and white, and its emblem features a stylized letter 'R', which stands for both 'Resovia' and 'Rzeszów'. The club's fans are known for their passionate support, and they share a fierce rivalry with Stal Rzeszów, the other major football club in the city. Matches between the two teams, known as the 'Rzeszów Derby', are among the most heated in Polish football.
In recent years, Resovia Rzeszów has faced financial difficulties, which have resulted in several relegations due to administrative decisions. Despite these setbacks, the club has shown resilience and determination, bouncing back to compete in the Polish second division, the I Liga.
Resovia Rzeszów is more than just a football club. It is a symbol of the city of Rzeszów, representing its history, its people, and their love for football. Despite the ups and downs, the club continues to inspire its fans and remains an integral part of the local community.
