Racing White Daring Molenbeek, commonly known as RWDM, is a renowned football club based in Molenbeek, Brussels, Belgium. The club was founded in 1903 as White Star Club de Bruxelles, and it underwent several name changes and mergers before finally becoming RWDM in 1973. The club's current name reflects its rich history, combining the names of four clubs that merged over the years: Racing Club de Bruxelles, White Star, Daring Club de Bruxelles, and Molenbeek.
RWDM has a rich legacy in Belgian football, having won the Belgian First Division five times, the Belgian Cup twice, and the Belgian Supercup once. The club's golden era was in the 1970s when they won the majority of their titles. The team's traditional colors are black and white, and they play their home games at the Edmond Machtens Stadium, which has a seating capacity of over 12,000.
In 2002, the club faced financial difficulties and was forced to declare bankruptcy. This led to the dissolution of the original RWDM, and the club was removed from the Belgian Football Association. However, the spirit of the club lived on in its passionate fan base. In 2003, a new club named FC Molenbeek Brussels Strombeek took over the number of the dissolved RWDM and moved to Molenbeek, continuing the legacy of football in the region.
In 2015, a group of loyal fans decided to revive the club under the name RWDM47, reflecting the year the club won its first national title. The new club started from the lowest division and quickly climbed up the ranks, reaching the Belgian National Division 1 in 2020. Despite the challenges, the club has managed to maintain a strong following, with fans cherishing the rich history and tradition of RWDM.
RWDM's journey is a testament to the resilience and passion that defines football. Despite the highs and lows, the club has remained a significant part of Belgian football history, embodying the spirit of the sport and the community it represents. Today, RWDM continues to inspire its fans and players, striving to reclaim its former glory and make its mark in Belgian football once again.
