Corporación Club Deportivo Tuluá, more commonly known as Cortuluá, is a professional football club based in Tuluá, Colombia. Founded in 1967, the club has a rich history spanning over five decades in Colombian football.
Cortuluá's journey in the football world began in the Categoría Primera B, the second tier of Colombian football. After years of hard work and dedication, the club achieved promotion to the Categoría Primera A, the top tier, in 1993. This marked a significant milestone in the club's history, cementing its place in the upper echelons of Colombian football.
The club's colors are red and white, and it plays its home matches at the Estadio Doce de Octubre, a stadium with a capacity of 16,000. The stadium, located in Tuluá, has been the club's home ground since its inception and has witnessed many memorable moments in the club's history.
Cortuluá's most successful period came in the late 1990s and early 2000s when it consistently finished in the top half of the Categoría Primera A. The club's highest ever league finish came in the 2003 season when it finished in the third position. Despite not having won the top-tier league title, Cortuluá has been a competitive force in Colombian football, often challenging the traditional powerhouses of the game.
In 2015, Cortuluá achieved one of its most significant accomplishments by winning the Categoría Primera B title, marking its return to the top flight after a period of absence. This victory demonstrated the club's resilience and determination to compete at the highest level.
The club has also made a significant contribution to Colombian football by nurturing young talents through its youth academy. Several players who started their careers at Cortuluá have gone on to represent the Colombian national team and play in some of the world's most prestigious leagues.
Despite facing financial challenges and periods of struggle on the pitch, Cortuluá has remained a beloved institution in Tuluá and the wider Colombian football community. The club's passionate fan base, known as 'La Pasión del Pueblo', has been a constant source of support, standing by the team through thick and thin.
Cortuluá's story is one of perseverance and dedication to the sport of football. The club's journey, from its humble beginnings to its status as a respected force in Colombian football, serves as a testament to its commitment to excellence and its unwavering love for the beautiful game.
