Fortaleza FC is a professional football club based in Cota, a municipality in the Cundinamarca Department of Colombia. The club was founded on November 15, 2006, under the name Fortaleza C.E.I.F. (Centro de Entrenamiento e Investigación del Fútbol), reflecting its initial focus on training and research in football. The club's primary colors are blue and white, and its emblem features a stylized fortress, symbolizing strength and resilience.
Fortaleza FC made its debut in the Categoría Primera B, the second tier of Colombian football, in 2007. The club quickly established itself as a competitive force, reaching the playoffs in its first season. In 2013, Fortaleza FC achieved its most significant milestone by winning the Primera B championship and earning promotion to the Categoría Primera A, the top tier of Colombian football, for the first time in its history.
The club's stint in the Primera A was brief, as it was relegated back to the Primera B after just one season. However, Fortaleza FC bounced back immediately, winning the 2014 Primera B championship and securing a return to the top flight. The club's second spell in the Primera A was also short-lived, and it has since been a regular participant in the Primera B.
Despite its relatively short history, Fortaleza FC has developed a reputation for nurturing young talents. Many of its players have gone on to play in the Primera A and abroad. The club's youth academy is considered one of the best in the region, producing a steady stream of players who have represented Colombia at various youth levels.
Fortaleza FC plays its home games at the Estadio Municipal de Cota, a venue with a capacity of 4,000 spectators. The club's fan base, while not as large as some of its more established counterparts, is known for its passion and loyalty. The fans, known as 'Los Fortalocos', are a vital part of the club's identity and have stuck with the team through its ups and downs.
In recent years, Fortaleza FC has faced financial difficulties, which have impacted its competitiveness on the pitch. However, the club's management has remained committed to its philosophy of developing young players and promoting attractive, attacking football. Despite the challenges, Fortaleza FC continues to hold a special place in the hearts of its fans and remains an important part of the Colombian football landscape.
