HB Køge is a professional football club based in Køge, Denmark. The club was established in 2009 as a result of a merger between two local clubs, Herfølge Boldklub and Køge Boldklub, both of which had a rich history in Danish football. The aim of the merger was to create a strong team that could compete at the highest level of Danish football, and to develop young talent in the region.
HB Køge started in the Danish Superliga, the top tier of Danish football, due to Herfølge Boldklub's league position at the time of the merger. However, the club faced relegation to the Danish 1st Division, the second tier, in their first season. Despite this setback, HB Køge has remained a strong competitor in the 1st Division, consistently finishing in the top half of the table.
The club plays its home matches at the Capelli Sport Stadion, a modern facility with a capacity of 10,000 spectators. The stadium is also used for concerts and other events, making it a central part of the community in Køge.
HB Køge is known for its strong youth development program, which has produced several players who have gone on to play in the Danish Superliga and other top European leagues. The club's philosophy is to give young players a chance to prove themselves at a high level, and this approach has been successful both in terms of player development and on-field results.
The club's colors are blue and white, and their mascot is a swan, a symbol of the town of Køge. The swan is featured prominently on the club's crest, along with the year of the club's founding.
Despite its relatively short history, HB Køge has established itself as a significant presence in Danish football. The club's commitment to youth development, combined with its competitive performances in the 1st Division, have made it a model for other clubs in Denmark and beyond. As HB Køge continues to grow and develop, the future looks bright for this ambitious Danish club.
