NAC Breda, officially known as NOAD ADVENDO Combinatie Breda, is a professional football club based in Breda, Netherlands. The club was founded on September 19, 1912, through the merger of two football clubs, NOAD (No Exercise Without Benefit) and ADVENDO (Pleasure Through Unity). The acronym NAC was derived from the first letters of these clubs. The club's colors are yellow and black, and they play their home games at the Rat Verlegh Stadium, named after one of their most famous players.
NAC Breda has a rich history, having participated in the Eredivisie, the top tier of Dutch football, for many years. The club has experienced a roller coaster of successes and challenges, including relegations and promotions. Their most significant achievement came in the 1920-21 season when they won the Dutch Championship, the precursor to the Eredivisie. They have also reached the KNVB Cup final on several occasions, winning it in 1973.
The club has a reputation for developing young talents, with a successful youth academy that has produced players who have gone on to play in top leagues around the world. NAC Breda's commitment to youth development is reflected in their partnership with English Premier League club, Manchester City, which allows them to loan young players for development.
Despite their successes, NAC Breda has also faced financial difficulties and relegations. The club has bounced between the Eredivisie and the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football, in recent years. However, their passionate fan base, known as the 'Yellow Army', has remained loyal and supportive, contributing to the club's reputation for having one of the best atmospheres in Dutch football.
NAC Breda's mascot, an eagle named 'Sjakie', is a beloved figure who embodies the club's fighting spirit. The eagle is a symbol of the city of Breda and has been the club's emblem since its inception.
In recent years, NAC Breda has focused on financial stability and returning to the Eredivisie. The club's management is committed to building a strong team that can compete at the highest level, while also maintaining its tradition of developing young talents. Despite the ups and downs, NAC Breda remains a proud and significant part of Dutch football history.
