Fudbalski Klub Vojvodina, commonly known as FK Vojvodina or simply Vojvodina, is a professional football club based in Novi Sad, Serbia. Established in 1914, it is one of the oldest football clubs in Serbia and the region. The club's rich history, coupled with its significant contributions to Serbian football, has made it a symbol of Novi Sad and Vojvodina.
FK Vojvodina's home ground is the Karađorđe Stadium, named after the Serbian revolutionary leader Karađorđe Petrović. With a seating capacity of over 14,000, the stadium has been the club's fortress since 1924. The club's colors are red and white, and its supporters are known as the "Firm 1989".
Vojvodina's early years were marked by regional success, with the club winning numerous championships in the Novi Sad Football Subassociation, one of the regional football associations of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. However, it was not until 1966 that the club won its first national title, the Yugoslav First League. This victory was followed by another league title in 1989, cementing Vojvodina's place among the elite clubs in Yugoslav football.
The club has also enjoyed success in domestic cup competitions, winning the Yugoslav Cup in 1962 and 1997, and the Serbian Cup in 2014. On the international stage, Vojvodina has represented Serbia in both the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League, reaching the quarterfinals of the former in the 1966-67 season.
Despite the challenges brought about by the breakup of Yugoslavia and the subsequent changes in the Serbian football system, Vojvodina has managed to maintain its status as a top-tier club. It has consistently finished in the upper half of the Serbian SuperLiga, the country's premier football competition, and has produced a number of players who have gone on to represent Serbia at the international level.
Vojvodina's youth academy is renowned for its player development, with alumni including Serbian internationals such as Branislav Ivanović, Dušan Tadić, and Miloš Krasić. The club's commitment to youth development is reflected in its motto, "Our youth, our future".
Off the pitch, FK Vojvodina is a symbol of the multicultural heritage of Novi Sad and the province of Vojvodina. The club has always promoted unity and tolerance, with players of various ethnic backgrounds having worn the red and white jersey throughout its history.
In recent years, Vojvodina has been working towards modernizing its infrastructure and improving its financial stability, with the aim of returning to the top of Serbian football and making a mark in European competitions. Despite the ups and downs, the club's passion for football and dedication to its community remain unwavering, making FK Vojvodina a true embodiment of the spirit of Novi Sad and Serbian football.
