RFK Novi Sad is a professional football club based in Novi Sad, Serbia. Established in 1921, the club has a rich history that spans over a century, making it one of the oldest football clubs in the region. The club's name, RFK, stands for Radnički Fudbalski Klub, which translates to Workers' Football Club, reflecting its roots in the working-class community of Novi Sad.
Throughout its history, RFK Novi Sad has competed in various leagues, from local to national levels. The club's most successful period was during the 1980s and early 1990s when they competed in the Yugoslav Second League, the second-highest football league in the former Yugoslavia. Despite never winning the league, the club consistently finished in the top half of the table, earning a reputation as a competitive and resilient team.
RFK Novi Sad's home ground is the Detelinara Stadium, a modest venue with a capacity of around 10,000 spectators. The stadium, like the club itself, is deeply rooted in the local community and has been the site of many memorable matches over the years. The club's fan base, known as the "Blue White", is passionate and loyal, providing unwavering support through both triumphs and tribulations.
The club's colors are blue and white, and their emblem features a stylized football and the club's initials, RFK. The club's motto, "Rad, Disciplina, Borba", which translates to "Work, Discipline, Fight", encapsulates the spirit and ethos of the club.
RFK Novi Sad has also been instrumental in nurturing local talent, with its youth academy producing several players who have gone on to have successful careers in Serbian and international football. The club's commitment to youth development is a testament to its dedication to the sport and its community.
Despite facing financial difficulties and relegation in recent years, RFK Novi Sad remains a beloved institution in Novi Sad and Serbian football. The club's resilience and determination mirror the character of the city and its people, making RFK Novi Sad more than just a football club, but a symbol of the community's spirit and passion for the beautiful game.
