Having finished their season with four straight draws and only one win in their last 11 games, this was exactly the result the Earthquakes must’ve feared.

We’d have a clearer picture of how things stand in the Western Conference if FC Dallas’ midweek game against the Colorado Rapids had gone ahead, but inclement weather put paid to that one. FCD will get another crack at the Rapids, but for now they need to put those frustrations

San Jose Earthquakes is a professional soccer club based in San Jose, California, USA. The club was established in 1974 as one of the ten charter members of the North American Soccer League (NASL). After the dissolution of the NASL in 1984, the team was reformed in 1995 as one of the ten charter clubs of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top-tier professional soccer league in the United States and Canada.
The Earthquakes have had a rollercoaster history, with periods of success interspersed with challenges. They won the MLS Cup in 2001 and 2003, and the Supporters' Shield in 2005 and 2012, which is awarded to the team with the best regular-season record. However, the club has also faced relocation threats and financial difficulties, leading to a brief hiatus from 2006 to 2007.
The Earthquakes returned to the MLS in 2008 and have since been working to rebuild their legacy. They moved into their new home, the Avaya Stadium, in 2015, which is known for having the largest outdoor bar in North America. The stadium was later renamed PayPal Park in 2021.
The club's name, Earthquakes, is a nod to the seismic activity common in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their colors are black and blue, and their mascot, named 'Q', is a lovable character that embodies the spirit of the club. The Earthquakes have a passionate fan base, known as the 1906 Ultras, named after the year of the devastating San Francisco earthquake.
Over the years, the Earthquakes have been home to many notable players, including Landon Donovan, Chris Wondolowski, and Dwayne De Rosario. Wondolowski, in particular, has left an indelible mark on the club and the league, becoming the all-time leading scorer in MLS history while playing for the Earthquakes.
The San Jose Earthquakes have a fierce rivalry with the Los Angeles Galaxy, with their matches known as the California Clásico. These games are some of the most anticipated in the MLS season, often drawing large crowds and producing memorable moments.
Despite the ups and downs, the San Jose Earthquakes remain a significant part of the American soccer landscape. They are a club with a rich history and a bright future, committed to developing local talent, engaging with their community, and striving for success on the pitch.
