Seraing United, officially known as Royal Football Club Seraing, is a professional football club based in Seraing, a city in the Walloon region of Belgium. The club was established in 1922 and has a rich history in Belgian football.
The club's roots can be traced back to the merger of two local clubs, Seraing FC and RFC Liégeois, in 1996. The new entity, initially known as RFC Seraing-RUL, had a brief stint in the Belgian First Division, the country's top-tier league, before financial difficulties led to a demotion to the lower leagues. The club was rebranded as Seraing United in 2015, following another merger with Boussu Dour Borinage, a club from the Belgian Second Division.
Seraing United's home ground is the Stade du Pairay, a venue with a seating capacity of approximately 4,400 spectators. The club's colors are red and black, and their emblem features a stylized football and a factory, symbolizing Seraing's industrial heritage.
Despite their turbulent history, Seraing United has consistently demonstrated a commitment to nurturing young talent. The club has a well-regarded youth academy, which has produced several players who have gone on to have successful careers in Belgium and abroad.
In recent years, Seraing United has shown signs of a resurgence. In the 2020-2021 season, the club achieved promotion to the Belgian First Division A after finishing second in the Belgian First Division B, marking their return to the top flight after a 25-year absence. This achievement is a testament to the club's resilience and determination to reclaim its place in Belgian football's elite.
Seraing United's journey is a story of survival and revival. Despite the challenges they have faced, the club has managed to preserve its identity and continue its mission of developing young footballers. With their recent promotion, Seraing United is poised to write a new chapter in its history, as they strive to reestablish themselves in the upper echelons of Belgian football.
