About Forest Green

Forest Green Rovers Football Club, often referred to as Forest Green or simply FGR, is a professional football club based in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, England. The club currently competes in the English Football League (EFL) Two, the fourth tier of English football.

Founded in 1889 by Reverend E.J.H. Peach, the club initially played friendly matches until joining the Mid-Gloucestershire League in 1894. Over the years, Forest Green Rovers has competed in various leagues, including the Stroud & District League, The Gloucestershire County League, and the Southern League.

The club's journey to the Football League was a long one, marked by numerous ups and downs. It wasn't until the 2016-17 season that Forest Green Rovers made history by earning promotion to the EFL for the first time. This was achieved under the guidance of manager Mark Cooper, following a victory in the National League promotion final at Wembley Stadium.

Forest Green Rovers is also renowned for its commitment to environmental sustainability, earning the title of the "greenest football club in the world". This commitment is evident in various aspects of the club's operations, from its organic pitch to its solar-powered stadium. In 2017, the club became the first vegan football club in the world, serving only plant-based food to players, staff, and fans.

The club's home ground is The New Lawn, a stadium with a capacity of over 5,000. The New Lawn is a testament to the club's eco-friendly ethos, featuring numerous green technologies such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting systems, and an organic pitch maintained without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

The club's colours are black and white, and their mascot is a green robot named 'Green Man'. The club's crest features a black and white shield with a stylized football and the club's initials, FGR.

Over the years, Forest Green Rovers has developed a reputation for nurturing young talent, with several players going on to play at higher levels. The club's commitment to sustainability, combined with its community focus and competitive spirit, make it a unique and cherished part of English football.

In summary, Forest Green Rovers Football Club is a pioneering organization that has not only made its mark on the football field but also in the realm of environmental sustainability. Its journey from humble beginnings to the Football League, while staying true to its green ethos, is a testament to its resilience and innovative spirit.
