About Salford City

Salford City Football Club, often known as The Ammies, is a professional football club based in Kersal, Salford, Greater Manchester, England. The club was founded in 1940 and initially competed in local leagues until it joined the Manchester Football League in 1982.

Salford City's journey to prominence began in 2014 when it was taken over by former Manchester United players Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, and Nicky Butt, along with businessman Peter Lim. This consortium, known as the 'Class of 92', brought significant investment and media attention to the club, propelling it through the English football pyramid.

Before the takeover, Salford City had spent the majority of its existence in the lower echelons of non-league football. However, the club has achieved remarkable success in recent years, winning four promotions in five seasons to reach the English Football League (EFL) for the first time in its history in 2019.

The club's home ground is the Peninsula Stadium, which has a capacity of 5,108. The stadium underwent significant renovations following the 2014 takeover, transforming it into a modern football facility.

Salford City's traditional colours are red and white, and their crest features a lion, a symbol of strength and courage. The club's mascot, Babs the Lion, is a popular figure among fans and often makes appearances at home games.

The club has a growing fan base, fuelled by its rapid rise through the leagues and its high-profile ownership. The 'Class of 92' has brought a new level of ambition to Salford City, with the ultimate goal of reaching the Premier League.

Despite its recent success, Salford City remains committed to its community roots. The club works closely with local schools and community groups, and runs a successful academy system, providing opportunities for local young players to develop their football skills.

Salford City's story is a testament to the transformative power of investment and ambition in football. From a small, local club, it has grown into a professional outfit competing in the EFL, capturing the imagination of football fans worldwide. The club's journey, however, is far from over, with the 'Class of 92' and the rest of the Salford City community aiming for even greater heights in the future.
