About Morecambe

Morecambe Football Club is a professional football club based in Morecambe, Lancashire, England. The club, often referred to as 'The Shrimps' due to the town's historic association with shrimp fishing, competes in the English Football League (EFL) Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system.

Founded in 1920, Morecambe FC has a long and rich history. The club initially competed in the Lancashire Combination League, where they remained until 1968. They then joined the Northern Premier League, where they enjoyed considerable success, winning the title twice in 1974 and 1975. In 2007, after several years in the Conference National, Morecambe achieved promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history.

The club's home ground is the Mazuma Stadium, formerly known as the Globe Arena, which has a capacity of 6,476. The stadium was opened in 2010, replacing the club's previous home, Christie Park, which had been their base since 1921.

Morecambe FC's traditional colours are red and white, which they have worn for the majority of their existence. The club's crest features a shrimp, a nod to the town's fishing heritage, and the Latin motto "Nunquam Non Paratus", meaning "Never Not Prepared".

Over the years, Morecambe FC has had several notable players and managers. Among them is Jim Bentley, who managed the club for eight years from 2011 to 2019, making him the longest-serving manager in the club's history. Bentley led the Shrimps to several mid-table finishes in the EFL Two, solidifying their position in the Football League.

Despite operating on one of the smallest budgets in the EFL, Morecambe FC has consistently punched above its weight. The club's ethos is built on hard work, determination, and a strong community spirit, with a dedicated fan base that passionately supports the team through thick and thin.

In the 2020-2021 season, Morecambe FC achieved one of the greatest feats in their history by securing promotion to EFL One via the play-offs. This marked the first time the club had reached the third tier of English football, a testament to their progress and ambition.

Morecambe FC's journey from the Lancashire Combination League to the upper echelons of the Football League is a story of perseverance and resilience. As they continue to defy the odds and make strides on the pitch, the Shrimps remain a source of pride for the town of Morecambe and a symbol of what can be achieved with grit, determination, and a never-say-die attitude.
