Hartlepool United Football Club, affectionately known as "Pools," is a professional football club based in Hartlepool, England. Founded in 1908, the club has a rich history spanning over a century and has become an integral part of the local community.
The club's home ground is Victoria Park, a stadium with a capacity of 7,856. The team's colours are blue and white, and their emblem, a stylised ship, pays homage to the town's maritime history. The club's mascot, H'Angus the Monkey, is a nod to a local legend and has become a beloved figure in Hartlepool.
Throughout its history, Hartlepool United has experienced a rollercoaster of highs and lows. The club has spent most of its existence in the lower tiers of the English Football League (EFL), but it has also enjoyed periods of success. The Pools have won the Durham County Challenge Cup on numerous occasions and have had several successful runs in the FA Cup.
One of the club's most notable achievements was reaching the League One Play-Off Final in the 2004-2005 season, narrowly missing out on promotion to the Championship. Despite this setback, the club continued to compete fiercely in League One until their relegation to League Two in 2013.
In 2017, Hartlepool United faced one of its most challenging periods when it was relegated from the EFL for the first time in its history, dropping into the National League. However, the club's resilience shone through, and they bounced back, securing promotion back to the EFL in 2021.
Over the years, Hartlepool United has produced several notable players who have gone on to achieve success at higher levels. These include Tommy Miller, who played in the Premier League with Sunderland and Ipswich Town, and Adam Boyd, who became a club legend with over 100 goals for the Pools.
The club's fans, known as the Poolies, are renowned for their passionate support. They have stuck by the team through thick and thin, and their loyalty has been a driving force behind the club's resilience and determination.
Hartlepool United's journey is a testament to the spirit of football in England's lower leagues. Despite the challenges they have faced, the club's determination, community spirit, and unwavering support from their fans have kept them going. The Pools' story is far from over, and they continue to write their history with every match they play.
